The Dharma gates are boundless

When I first began practcing at my zendo, this was part of a translation of the Four Vows of the Bodhisattva that we chanted …

The dharma gates are boundless; I vow to enter them.

… but somewhere along the way, we started chanting this translation instead:

The dharma gates are boundless, I vow to open them.

Vast difference, or the same?
